A mental disorder or mental illness is a psychological or behavioral pattern associated with distress or disability that occurs in an individual. Here is a non-inclusive list of mental health disorders that we diagnose and treat: Anxiety including specific phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder; a Mood disorder involving unusually intense and sustained sadness, melancholia or despair; Major depression or Clinical depression; Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression); Psychotic disorders including schizophrenia, and delusional disorder; Eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, exercise bulimia or binge eating disorder; Sleep disorders such as insomnia; Sexual and gender identity disorders including dyspareunia, gender identity disorder and ego-dystonic homosexuality; Tourette’s syndrome; Kleptomania (stealing) or pyromania (fire-setting); Obsessive-compulsive disorder; Dissociative Identity Disorder (which has also been called multiple personality disorder, or “split personality”), Munchausen syndrome; self-defeating personality disorder, sadistic personality disorder, passive-aggressive personality disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
